In most lotions, the first ingredient is aqua (water). That means the product is often 70–90% water, with oils and actives suspended in an emulsion. To make that emulsion shelf-stable, formulators have to add preservatives, emulsifiers, and stabilizers — many of which can be irritating or simply unnecessary.

 

A waterless formula skips the fillers. It’s more concentrated, requires no harsh preservatives, and delivers active ingredients directly to the skin in their purest form.
